Creative Kuts Birthday Surprise

Today I made a birthday card using the Creative Kuts Birthday Surprise file.  The original picture displays a white bear but I decided to use a brown bear instead.  I used a Close to My Heart stamp to get the happy birthday.  My folding the heart on the bow it kind of gave it more a 3D effect.  Hope you enjoy.

Creative Kuts Kuttin Up Tuesday Challenge

Hi Guys,

This weeks Kuttin Up Tuesday Challenge was to make something for spring.  I chose to do a card!  I used the pattern set "Thinking of You".  You can purchase your own set here:  I made my card in the shape of a circle.  I find this gives a fun look to cards.  I then used a scallop circle that I cut out with SCAL to look like a big flower in the background.  I chose some really vibrant colours to make my birds stand out.  The "I'm So Thankful for You" stamp is from Close to My Heart.
I made the flowers look more poofy by doubling the nuber of flowers and off setting them.  I used brads to hold them togeher.

Rock Star

Well today's blog features a layout I did with the "Rock With Me" paper piecing pattern set from Creative Kuts.  If you click on Rock star above it will bring you to their site.  I used the Hooligans paper line from Close To My Heart.  We love to play Rock Band and at the time drink Rock Star.  This page represents the party we had for my 30th birthday.  I was hanging out with all of my favorite friends.  Some people are missing from these photos but their pictures were not decent enough to put in my scrapbook but they were all cherished for being there.  Thanks Cal, Sarah and Darryl to also celebrating in my special day.

Little Scraps of Heaven Tag Swap

I was part of a Tag Swap with Little Scraps of Heaven.  I thought I would post my tags since everyone seems to be receiving them now. I used the Fireman set from My Community.  I used a type of ribbon I have here that is almost like paper.  It is neat and crisp.  Also used Faux stitching.

Baby Shower invitation

As our first project of the Creative Kuts Design Team, I made a baby shower invitation.  I used the "It's a Boy" pattern file found at  I played around with this file to make the sign into a card opening.

Here is the invite front and the inside of the card.

Selling on Ebay

Well I have never sold any layouts on Ebay before so I thought I might give it a try.  The only problem is that my picture is so small.  I am hoping it will sell.  I might opt for a few more pictures to show off the page.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

A while ago I decided that I was going to try and make all of the Characters in the Zoo pattern set from My Scrap Chick.  I ended up making this layout for Jacob's book.  This layout was made using the Splendor line from Close To My Heart.

This is the page I made to sell on Ebay.  Its similar but it uses paper from the My Wild Life Paper Pack as well as a piece of green paper from K&Company.  While doing this layout I discovered 2 paper packs I had that I forgot about.  This is a good sign you have too much paper.  I admit I am a paper holic but I really don't think I have a problem.

Another Fishing Layout

Well this layout was created using a few odds and ends.  I had one BoBunny paper and I'm not even sure what the name of it was.  The fishing bits were from a pack I picked up a long time ago at WalMart.  I just kept adding them and a few of the stickers were from the dollar store.  I really like this layout and it features some nice fish my husband caught.

BoBunny Sun Kissed Featuring Sun Pattern from Creative Cuts

Yes again a BoBunny Line.  I love their papers.  I had posted a Sun Kissed layout a few weeks ago and this is the layout I made with the remainder of my paper.  For the past year or so I switched from buying one piece of paper here and there to buying paper packs or all the papers for a matching line.  Why?  Well I find I actually use up all of my paper if my paper is matching.  I don't normally buy too many big paper pads though since I usually only go through 15 or so papers.

This layout is one showing my sons development through the first six months.  I took a picture of him each month on the 27th so that I could put the pictures together to compare the changes.  Again, this paper is a seasonal paper set but the colours are so bright they are great for little boy pages.  Always remember you can use your paper for just about anything you put your mind to so don't feel limited by the season of the paper.

If you were not aware, I recently became a Design Team Member for Creative Kuts.  In this layout the sun is one of their pieces.  I love how it looks with this paper.  You can see more of Creative Kuts paper piecing patters by visiting their site:

BoBunny Snowy Serenade

One of my favorite paper sets was BoBunny's Snowy Serenade released in 2009.  Those who know me will say that I am not a winter person.  That being said, I love winter papers.  What I like to show people is that you can use papers geared for specific season's for everyday pictures.  Here are two single page layouts I did of my baby boy.  The Simple Man layout has the lyrics to Lynard Skynard's simple man.  I love this song and I felt it was a good massage for Jacob.  The second one was actually taken in the fall but the hat really makes it look wintery.

It's ok to use flowers with boy pictures.  Being a biologist I know that flowers come in both Male and Female so why not?  :)

Fall Layout

My good friend Tina, at Tina's Scrapbook Creations in Winchester Ontario, has a contest every season.  You can buy a kit from her for $15.00 and she puts a large variety of paper in it.  The objective is to make a layout with that paper and bring it to her store.  People will then vote on the layout.  Long story short, I didn't win but I was so proud of this layout.  The colours were just amazing.  Thank you Tina for such a great paper pack.

Camping Fun

I love to do camping pages.  My husband and I are avid outdoors people so we tend to camp and fish a lot.  We do rent a cottage every year on Lower Beverly Lake in Eastern Ontario.  The challenge is what to do with all the pictures we have taken and sometimes it is hard to scrap just one page for an entire week when we have so many good memories.  Here is my attempt at 2009's trip.  I'm a little behind.  Aren't we all.

The first page was make up using the BoBunny Roughin it line.  You might notice BoBunny is one of my favorite lines. I had a lot of pictures to use so I cut them in 3X3 inch squares.  Remember when you are doing this that you can cut quite a bit out of a picture as long as you keep a focal point.  I made up the bear, tent, fire and sign using Treasure Box Designs Camping Fun.

The second page was made up using a combination of the paper I had left from the BoBunny Roughin it line and a few pages I had from My Mind's Eye Cowabunga Summer camp.  I also added a MME "On the Lake" rub on.  Wow.. I always forget to use my rub ons and they make such a great accent.

Biotech Page - Cute but Geeky..

Some of you may or may not know that my background is Biology, Biotechnology and Fish & Wildlife.  Why?  Well I started out in Micro at Guelph but worked in fisheries. So once I graduated from Guelph I decided to try Fish and Wildlife.  That didn't pan out in the job market so I went back to school in 2005 for Biotechnology.

A new Paper Piecing company caught my attention this past week.  They are Creative Kuts.  There web site is  They just started out but they are adding patterns all the time.  They have really neat patterns that are quite a bit different from what you would see at Little Scraps, Treasure Box Designs or My Scrap Chick.  I like different because it opens up new doors of creativity.

One of there pattern sets is called "We Have Chemistry".. well being a current Lab Tech for Greenfield Ethanol and a former Biotech grad I couldn't resist.  So here is my geeky scrap layout.

The paper I used for this is We Are Memory Keepers Grandma's Kitchen.  I always thought that baking and cooking were a lot like Chemistry.  You have to add things in certain amounts, in a certain way, at a certain time to come out with an end result.  Maybe that is why I'm not a bad cook either.  Assuming I'm actually a good lab tech.

Today's Layout. Bo Bunny Sun Kissed Line

I created this layout in October at the Ogdensburg NY Crop Till You Drop retreat I go to every year.  It is one of my favorites.  I love the inking.  I used the Stampin Up Ticket punch to do the corners.  This is such a great paper line.  Really made my pictures pop.

My Scrapbook Area

I have had quite a few people ask me what my scrapbooking area looks like.  Well here are some photos.  It's not a big space but it works.  I am tripping over stuff a lot but at least its out in the open.  I find you end up working on things if everything is out in the open.

This is my very small but highly function-able table.

My little corner.  Its not big at all but it's my scrapbook home.

My containers..

My desk.  Well it's technically my husbands desk but I have taken it over.

And my little shelf.  I have an ink addiction..

My closet.  This used to be the closet for all of our P&G products.  I have taken it over.  Hey I used to have an entire room....
